Collaboration Scheme

Helping people come together to build relationships and share challenges.

A funded way to build partnerships and explore what is possible together

The Collaboration Scheme supports different ways of working together, from early exploration through to long term partnerships. It brings together researchers, industry, educators and community to:

  • explore shared challenges
  • exchange knowledge and skills
  • develop ideas that can lead to future impact

Activities are led by researchers, time limited and flexible, designed to fit around existing work while building momentum.

Three ways to work together

Networking & Exploration

  • Supporting early-stage activity that brings researchers and industry together to:
  • connect across organisations and sectors
  • explore challenges and opportunities
  • understand where ideas could lead.

Typical activities include:

  • workshops and meetings
  • early engagement with industry and partners
  • exploring commercial or real world potential

Secondments

  • allow researchers to work directly with end users, industry and supply chain partners
  • develop skills and capability
  • exchange knowledge in real world working environments

Strategic Partnerships

  • focus on building long term collaboration between research organisations and industry
  • aligning research with real-world needs
  • delivering sustained impact over time.

Who is this for?

The Collaboration scheme brings together:

  • academic researchers and research groups
  • universities and academic teams
  • SME’s, and supply chain organisations
  • industry partners and employers
  • community, civic and voluntary organisations

You don’t need an existing partnership or a fully formed idea to get started. Collaboration activity is:

Collaboration Scheme FAQ

The Collaboration scheme supports early-stage work between organisations. It helps academics and businesses come together to build relationships, understand shared challenges and test ideas before moving into a larger project. Activities are designed to be short, flexible and designed to fit around existing commitments, typically outcomes delivered within a 12 month period.

  • share knowledge and skills through secondments
  • develop partnerships that can lead to real world impact.

The Collaboration scheme supports different types of activity:
